"Saturday afternoon's beautiful set by pianist Geri Allen as part of the Portland Jazz Festival proved that quiet jazz can have just as much -- perhaps even more -- power to take listeners to another place. In a 90-minute set, Allen, along with bassist Kenny Davis and drummer Jimmy Cobb, took several of her songs down to the faintest whisper, and the results were breathtaking.
